Untitled 0.13 (SOLD) & Untitled 0.131 (12×16, oil on mounted canvas)

Today I worked on 2 companion pieces focusing on: Color. Movement. Emotion. I’m experimenting with ways to manipulate color and movement for the ending composition. This began as some color memories I was thinking about and knowing that I wanted lots of movement.   Companion – Untitled 0.131, oil on 12×16 canvas paper.

Robert Motherwell and Ft. Worth, Texas

I was fortunate to spend some time at the Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth. As I entered,  there was an amazing piece of art that engulfed the wall to my right. Large. Striking. Bold. A picture doesn’t do justice to the sheer size of this piece. Thinking about how he applied the canvas on […]

Untitled 0.11 (12×16 oil on canvas)

This piece began as a way to experiment with more warm colors vs. the cools I’ve been using so far. The “triplet” theme fascinates me for the tension and connectivity it creates. I’m working on 12×16 canvas paper attached to glass backing on easel. The palate was really gorgeous from this work.

Untitled 0.8 (16×20, oil on glass)

I was framing a few of the pieces I had completed in my garage one weekend afternoon. I was working with some nice looking black frames I had found at a local art store and was removing the glass and setting them aside so I wouldn’t bump or break them. You never know where an idea […]

Untitled 0.7 (for Ryan) 12×16, oil on canvas

After painting for my daughter, it only took a short amount of time before my son wanted a piece for himself. He was much less specific with what he wanted, but showed me a few things he was interested it. The conversation started with colors. After listening to him, I showed him these colors: He […]

Untitled 0.6 (for Peyton) 12×16, oil on canvas

My daughter is wonderfully talented and very creative. She is loving that I’m painting and was really attracted to the style of 0.4 and 0.5. I asked her if she wanted me to make her a special painting with her choice of colors. Within minutes, I received this note from her: I had already used […]

Untitled 0.5 (12×16, Oil on canvas) – SOLD

This piece was a natural color extension from Untitled 0.4. As a technology freak, I was on the lookout for a simple way to capture some colors when I had a thought. A quick search brought me to the Picasso app (Google Play store) and it was exactly what I needed. I could quickly get […]

Untitled 0.4 (12×16, oil on canvas) – Personal Collection

I was experimenting with painting on canvas paper with bold color backgrounds. I was interested in color values and with grey and brown. My daughter loves the color “peach” and I wanted to start in that area as the basis. Movement. Interaction. Reveal. That’s what I was concentrating on with this piece. Got the colors […]

Untitled 0.3 (12×16, oil on canvas) Personal Collection

I’m drawn to yellow in paintings. It is a strong color with lots of connection to life and growth. The impact of Rothko’s Untitled, 1949 probably stays fresh in my mind with the powerful use of yellow in that masterpiece. I wanted a piece where yellow was featured, which led to the creation of this […]

Untitled 0.2 (12×16, oil on canvas) – SOLD

This is my official “first painting”. I knew I wanted to paint on canvas paper and ultimately frame it. As with most of my works, it begins with a sketch and a thought process. I’m very interested in “tension” and movement and using a progression of “3” is a good way to do that.
