To us, art is an adventure into an unknown world… of the imagination {which} is fancy-free and violently opposed to common sense… It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted – Letter to the Editor, New York Times. Adolph Gottlieb and Mark Rothko (1945)
I’ve watched the documentary Gerhard Richter Painting three times now and find inspiration each and every time I see it.
Since I started painting, my technique typically will involve revealing layers throughout the composition and seeing him use this type of technique on his recent works is wonderful.
As always, I start with composition a thought and idea… especially the colors.
